Moonset over Eskdale

Moonset over Eskdale - Latest Work

Easter 2015 saw a period of sustained high pressure, and it was a lovely long weekend. Leaving my digs at Penny Hill Farm I set off for a dawn vigil at Wastwater some 8 miles away. Arriving just as twilight was breaking I realised I was under a thick bank of mist, which I guessed was too thick to clear at valley level. I didn't have either the time or inclination to hike hundreds of feet up a hill. So back to Eskdale it was. Driving back east took me out of the thick mist. This image was made from the Hardknott Pass, just below the Roman fort. Taken just 8 minutes before sunrise. The sun was to rise directly behind me, and the western sky was just beginning to have some colour. The moon was glorious as was the whole dawn. An unforgettable experience.
