8 below at Ribblehead - Yorkshire Dales

The coldest day of 2014 was the 13th of December. I arrived in the dark. The car's thermometer read -8 degrees. I walked the few minutes onto Middle Scar. This image was made in what is known as the blue hour. It's the hour before sunrise when darkness gives way to twilight, and the sun is still below the horizon. The sunrise was still 25 minutes away. The sky to the south east was beginning to glow orange, and the blue sky reflected onto the crisp cold snow. The mountain in the background is Yorkshire's second highest, Ingleborough.
